Before turning himself in on double murder charges, YNW Melly was known widely as the next representative of Florida's burgeoning rap scene. He was set to become a measuring stick for anybody that would come after him, breaking out with songs like "Murder On My Mind" and "Mixed Personalities" with Kanye West. Unfortunately, his story took a major detour and, for the last year and several months, he has been in jail as he awaits his trial.
Currently suffering from COVID-19 while locked up, the 21-year-old rapper is celebrating his birthday today and, to bring in his big day in style, he released a brand new video called "Disturbia."
The song takes Rihanna's track of the same name as its skeletal structure, modernizing it and bringing Melly's soft vocals to the forefront near the end. Filmed before he went to jail, the rapper actually makes an appearance in the visuals.
Check out the brand new song and video from YNW Melly below and let us know what you think of the 21-year-old rapper. Do you think he should be released from jail?
Quotable Lyrics:
When you slangin' that, I swear
You better slang that shit for everybody
Whoever ridin' ain't die for you
When you gimme that, I swear
I wouldn't dare take off on everybody
Whoever heard it or doubted me
Disturbia, disturbia
My life creepy like Rihanna said
